An editorial project archiving my father's music collection.
Background
Consisting of nearly 400 CDs, each of the albums within the collection have their own stories and connections, both musically and personally. Through conversations with my father I was able to gain an insight into his associations between certain albums and artists via artistic style, collaborations and his own personal memories. The result is a visual map into my fathers’ mind, whereby certain albums or artists are highlighted, connected and supported by my own memories. The outcome is an editorial piece, in the same size and shape as a vinyl, plus an A2 poster of his CD collection hidden inside a front pocket.

Process
The book opens with the index where the collection is arranged primarily by colour (then secondarily by genre and artist) for both CDs and vinyls. The CD Colour Index serves as the central reference point and location guide within each chapter, with the the Vinyl Colour Index holding a supporting role.

The chapters are organised by genre, with albums displayed in the same locations from the main CD Colour Index. Circular devices feature throughout, showing parts of an album which are then revealed on the following page. The device mirrors the shape of the music medium, and creates an interactive element via gradual reveal. This is contrasted with the slow removal of interview text as one progresses through a chapter. Both aspects highlight key information, and combine with arrows that join albums together both within and across chapters, creating a sense of connection and navigation throughout the book.
