A preparation pack to better protect protestors against Riot Control Agents (RCAs) specifically Teargas and Pepperspray.
Background
With a general rise of global unrest and protest, 'non-lethal' RCAs like Teargas and Pepperspray are becoming more common. Despite their name these agents can be extremely harmful, and many engaging in action for the first time need to be better prepared. For this reason, I created a conceptual RCA Preparation Pack for Amnesty International to provide vital health and safety information for first time protestors. The hypothetical pack includes an A5 brochure/guide, a T-shirt and Instagram cards.

Process
The A5 brochure is a re-design of an existing Amnesty International guide. Changes were based upon user testing from several interviews, in order to ensure better understanding. This led to a simplification and division of the original content into three sections; Characteristics, Protection & Effects and Treatment. Background information and practical steps for each section were made clearer via reduced text, neutral language and an inclusion of 26 original icons.

The format is flexible; the brochure can be opened and viewed in its entirety as an A3 poster, or torn into four A5 pages via perforations. The guide is also digitally translated into Instagram cards for easy, accessible and portable viewing.

The T-shirt features the Treatment steps listed under 'Step 1: Immediate Action' in a reduced text only format. If worn to a protest this will allow others who have not encountered the full guide to clearly see and absorb what immediate steps need be taken, if attacked by RCAs.
